As part of activities marking its 10th Anniversary Celebration, Regentropfen University College (RUC) has relaunched its President’s Scholarship for Females, a flagship initiative aimed at increasing female participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Agriculture programmes.
The scholarship, originally introduced in 2022 by the Founder and President of the university, Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya, SVD, seeks to remove financial barriers that often prevent young women from pursuing higher education in fields that are critical to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
Under the renewed scholarship package, eligible female students will receive 50 percent tuition support for their first two academic years while pursuing selected STEM-related programmes at the university.
The scholarship covers the following programmes:
- BSc. Agriculture for Social Change
- B.Ed. Mathematics with ICT
- BSc. Computer Science
- BSc. Information Technology
Speaking during the relaunch, Rev. Fr. Dr. Awinongya explained that the scholarship is a tribute to two remarkable women whose dedication and sacrifices have left an enduring legacy in the history of Regentropfen University College.
He paid glowing tribute to Professor Agnes Atia Apusigah, the institution’s first female Vice President, describing her as a trailblazer who championed women’s education and established an award scheme for the best graduating female student.
“Professor Agnes Atia Apusigah was the first female Vice President of our institution, and she also founded and funded the award for the best graduating female student,” he said.
The university founder also honoured the memory of his late mother, Mama Alice Akankuba-Mah Abinglogro, whose passion for empowering young women inspired the establishment of the scholarship.
According to him, although she never had the opportunity to receive formal education herself, she consistently invested in the education of young women and supported many of them financially to secure brighter futures.
“Though she was not formally educated, she made sure young women came to RUC, and she helped finance them so they could build their future,” Rev. Fr. Dr. Awinongya stated.
He noted that the relaunch of the scholarship is intended to preserve the legacy of these two inspirational women while creating more opportunities for girls and young women to pursue careers in agriculture, science, technology and mathematics.
“We believe their legacy must continue. It is important to encourage more women to pursue careers in agriculture, science, mathematics and technology because these fields are essential to national development,” he added.
In addition to the President’s Scholarship for Females, Regentropfen University College has introduced another attractive scholarship package for students enrolling in its Bachelor of Science in Accounting programme.
Under this arrangement, beneficiaries will enjoy 60 percent tuition scholarship during their first two academic years and 40 percent tuition support during their final two years, making quality accounting education more affordable for aspiring professionals.
The university says the Accounting scholarship forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen professional education and produce highly skilled accountants capable of contributing to Ghana’s economic transformation.
Located at Kansoe, Namoo in the Upper East Region, Regentropfen University College has over the past decade established itself as one of northern Ghana’s leading private tertiary institutions, offering degree, diploma and postgraduate programmes through its Faculties of Applied Sciences, Humanities and Health Sciences.
The relaunch of the President’s Scholarship underscores the university’s commitment to promoting gender equity in higher education, empowering women through education, and producing the skilled workforce needed to drive innovation, food security, technological advancement and sustainable national development.
