Talensi MP Daniel Dung Mahama Calls for Peace After Clashes Between Namoalug and Gbane Communities

Talensi MP Daniel Dung Mahama has appealed for peace, dialogue and unity following clashes between Namoalug and Gbane communities in the Talensi Constituency of the Upper East Region, which reportedly resulted in the burning of some houses and the destruction of other properties.

In a statement dated October 15, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Talensi expressed concern over the incident, describing it as an unfortunate development that had created fear, panic, tension and uncertainty among residents.

The lawmaker said the incident had raised concerns about the safety and peaceful coexistence of residents in the affected communities, stressing the need for collective efforts to prevent further escalation and restore lasting peace.

According to Mr Mahama, he had been working behind the scenes with the relevant security agencies to help restore calm following the clashes.

He indicated that calm had been restored, although efforts were still ongoing to ensure that peace was fully established and sustained in the affected communities.

“Your safety and peaceful coexistence remain a priority, and I will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to protect the peace in our constituency,” the MP stated.

MP commends security agencies

Mr Mahama expressed appreciation to the Talensi District Security Council, the Regional Security Council and the various security agencies for their efforts in restoring calm and addressing the situation.

He acknowledged the role of the security personnel in responding to the incident and supporting efforts to prevent further disturbances.

The MP emphasised that maintaining peace required continued cooperation between security agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders and residents.

He urged all stakeholders to remain committed to initiatives that would strengthen security, rebuild confidence among residents and prevent similar incidents from recurring.

Traditional leaders urged to sustain peace

The Talensi MP also commended the chiefs of Namoalug, Gbane and Gaare, alongside Assembly Members in the affected communities, for their contributions towards calming tensions and supporting efforts to restore peace.

He recognised the importance of traditional authorities and local representatives in resolving community disputes, encouraging dialogue and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Their involvement, he suggested, remained crucial to ensuring that the calm achieved following the incident translated into lasting peace and stability.

Call for dialogue and unity

As part of his appeal, Mr Mahama urged residents of the affected communities to embrace dialogue, unity and mutual understanding rather than actions that could deepen divisions.

He reminded residents that they belonged to one community and shared a common future, making peaceful coexistence essential to the development of the Talensi Constituency.

The MP stressed that the future of the area depended largely on the ability of its people to live together in harmony, regardless of their differences.

He therefore called on community members to prioritise peace, exercise restraint and work together with traditional authorities and security agencies to prevent further tensions.

Peace remains crucial to development

The incident has underscored the importance of strengthening community relations and addressing tensions through dialogue and established conflict-resolution mechanisms.

Beyond the immediate need to restore calm, sustained peace is essential to protecting lives and property, safeguarding livelihoods and allowing residents to go about their daily activities without fear.

For Talensi, the challenge will be to build on the reported restoration of calm by encouraging continued engagement among the affected communities and ensuring that disagreements are resolved peacefully.

Mr Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to protect peace and promote peaceful coexistence across the constituency.

He concluded with a message of unity, urging residents to recognise their shared identity and work towards a future in which all communities can live together in harmony.
