Upper East Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Edmond Bombande, has called for total unity within the party, insisting that the region’s past electoral successes can be repeated in 2028 if members come together and work hard.
Speaking in an interview on Bluewaves breakfast show, Bombande said the NPP has previously won several seats in the region and can reclaim them. “Looking at our track record, we have won Talensi before… I think twice. We won Bawku Central before. We won Nabdam before. We won Navrongo before… We won Zebilla before.”
He identified Tempane, Zebilla, Nabdam, Navrongo, Bawku and Pusiga as winnable seats, noting that in the 2020 election the difference in Pusiga was only about 62 or 64 votes.
Bombande attributed the party’s poor showing in 2024 partly to internal dissatisfaction rather than a massive shift to the NDC. He explained that after eight years in power, some supporters felt neglected, became “piffed” and stayed away from the polls.
“There are people who were piffed… and they never came out to vote. They felt like they were not treated very well. And it’s normal with any party that is in power,” he said. He added that many of those supporters have since expressed regret.
The organiser stressed the need to re-engage the disaffected members. “Let them know that the party is bigger than all of us. They have no place to go… they belong to the elephant family. So they need to come back and bring ideas.”
He said the party must also intensify voter registration and ensure maximum turnout on election day. “If we are able to do this, by the grace of God, come 2028, it’s going to be a clean sweep for us.”
Bombande emphasised that success depends on collective effort, adding that as organiser he cannot do the work alone and needs everyone on board.
