UE: Bolgatanga East DCE Commissions Two CHPS Compounds at Dubila and Pologu to Improve Healthcare Delivery

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Hon. Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has commissioned two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Dubila and Pologo to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to essential health services in the district.

The commissioning ceremonies were held in collaboration with the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, represented by Mr Samuel Agyarko Larbi, and the District Health Director, Madam Maria Mahama.

The two health facilities are expected to bring healthcare services closer to residents, particularly people in the beneficiary communities and surrounding areas who may otherwise have to travel considerable distances to access basic medical care.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremonies, Hon. Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri said the completion of the facilities represents an important step towards improving healthcare delivery and addressing challenges associated with access to quality healthcare in the district.

He noted that the establishment of the CHPS compounds would help strengthen primary healthcare services, promote early detection of illnesses and ensure that residents receive timely medical attention within their communities.

The DCE further called on residents of Dubila and Pologo to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance.

He stressed that the sustainability of the infrastructure would depend not only on the efforts of government and health authorities but also on the commitment of community members to protect and maintain the facilities.

Hon. Aka-Eri encouraged residents to make effective use of the facilities, explaining that they would contribute to the successful implementation of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Initiative by making essential healthcare services more accessible at the community level.

The involvement of the SOCO Project in the development of the facilities also highlights the importance of partnerships in addressing critical development needs, particularly in underserved communities across northern Ghana.

Primary healthcare remains a critical component of Ghana’s healthcare system, with CHPS compounds serving as the first point of contact for many rural communities. They play an important role in preventive healthcare, maternal and child health services, health education, disease surveillance and the treatment of common illnesses.

The commissioning of the two facilities is therefore expected to contribute to improved access to basic healthcare services and strengthen the district’s efforts towards achieving better health outcomes.

Residents are expected to support health workers, protect the facilities and cooperate with health authorities to ensure that the infrastructure serves its intended purpose.

The commissioning marks another step in efforts to bring essential social services closer to communities and improve the overall well-being of residents in Bolgatanga East District.
