The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugblisong Nanlebegtang, has reiterated his commitment to serving all people regardless of political affiliation, emphasizing that his role as a traditional ruler rises above partisan interests.
Speaking at his palace in Tongo during a courtesy call by the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the chief stressed the importance of neutrality and inclusiveness in traditional leadership.
Known in private life as Robert Nachinab Doameng Mosore, the Tongraan previously served as Member of Parliament for Talensi on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He resigned from Parliament in 2015 following his enskinment, in compliance with 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which prohibits chiefs from engaging in active party politics. His resignation led to a by-election subsequently won by Benson Tongo Baba of the NDC.
Addressing his guests, the paramount chief underscored that his leadership now encompasses all segments of society.
“My wings cover everyone—from left to right, forward and backward,” he said. “Those who knew me before and those who know me now must understand that I stand for all, including every political group.”
He explained that his engagements with political actors are guided by the need to foster unity and development, rather than advance partisan agendas.
“When John came here, I blessed him. When Mahamudu came here, I blessed him. They are all our children. Whoever holds leadership does so for all of us and for Ghana as a whole,” he noted.
Tongraan Nanlebegtang further appealed to political stakeholders in the Upper East Region, particularly within the Talensi Constituency, to set aside their differences and work together in the interest of peace, unity, and development.
