The Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Casper Sunday Kampoli, has defended the party’s development record in northern Ghana, citing investments in electricity, road infrastructure, education and healthcare as key pillars of the party’s legacy.
Speaking on the BlueWaves Breakfast Show on BlueWaves Radio 93.7 FM, Mr Kampoli argued that the NDC has played a significant role in transforming communities across the northern sector, including the Upper East Region, and should be recognised for its contributions to national development.
According to him, the provision and extension of electricity to communities across the northern sector remain among the notable achievements of the NDC, explaining that access to electricity has contributed significantly to improving living conditions and creating opportunities for economic activities.
He stressed that the party’s development record cannot be limited to electricity alone, insisting that road infrastructure and education are equally important areas in which successive NDC governments have made considerable investments.
NDC’s Contribution to Education and Healthcare
On education, Mr Kampoli maintained that several senior high schools across the country were established under NDC governments, arguing that the party has consistently demonstrated its commitment to expanding access to quality education.
He further cited the establishment of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) as one of the significant achievements of the NDC in strengthening tertiary education and healthcare training in Ghana.
He disclosed that conversations surrounding efforts to secure a teaching hospital for the university have reached an advanced stage.
According to him, the proposed teaching hospital would further strengthen the university’s capacity to provide practical medical training, support research and contribute to improved healthcare delivery.
He described the development as another important step in the country’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare and medical education systems.
Questions NPP’s Development Legacy
Mr Kampoli also challenged members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to account for their development records, particularly in constituencies where they have previously held parliamentary seats.
He questioned the legacy left behind by some NPP representatives who had occupied parliamentary positions, arguing that political leadership should be assessed based on tangible development projects and contributions to the welfare of the people.
He maintained that political parties must demonstrate their commitment to the electorate through practical development initiatives rather than relying solely on political promises and campaign rhetoric.
Attributes NDC’s 15 Parliamentary Seats to Hard Work
Touching on the NDC’s electoral success in the Upper East Region, Mr Kampoli attributed the party’s victory in all 15 parliamentary constituencies to hard work, commitment and the confidence voters have placed in the party.
He argued that the electorate’s decision to support the NDC was based on its belief that the party works in the interest of ordinary Ghanaians and remains committed to addressing their development needs.
According to him, the party did not secure the 15 parliamentary seats by chance but through sustained political engagement and hard work at the grassroots level.
He maintained that the NDC’s relationship with the people, as demonstrated through its development record, continues to be a major factor in its political support across the region.
Assures Residents of Commitment to Bolgatanga-Bawku Road
Addressing concerns over the delayed completion of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road, Mr Kampoli assured residents that Members of Parliament from the Upper East Region were not resting on their efforts to ensure the project is completed.
He indicated that the MPs from the region were actively concerned about the state of the road and were working to ensure that the necessary steps were taken to address the challenges surrounding the project.
He expressed optimism that the contractor would soon return to the project site to continue and complete the outstanding works.
His assurance comes amid growing public concern over the slow pace of work on the major road corridor, which serves as an important transportation link for residents, traders, businesses and commuters in the Upper East Region and beyond.
The Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road remains a major infrastructure priority for the region, with residents and road users repeatedly calling for urgent attention to ease transportation difficulties and improve economic activities.
Mr Kampoli’s comments formed part of a broader defence of the NDC’s development record and an appeal for the party’s contributions to northern Ghana to be recognised.
He maintained that the NDC’s investments in electricity, education, healthcare and road infrastructure demonstrate its commitment to development and improving the living conditions of the people.
