The directive was issued during the Minister’s working visit to health facilities and training institutions across the Upper East, North-East, and Northern Regions. The tour formed part of efforts by the Ministry of Health to assess service delivery, operational efficiency, and compliance with established standards in health training institutions.
According to the Ministry, the Minister had earlier received reports suggesting that admissions into the Nurses and Midwifery Training College at Nalerigu were conducted outside approved protocols. Acting on these concerns, the Minister visited the college to engage management and verify the claims.
Following preliminary findings from the visit, the Health Minister directed the immediate suspension of the Principal, pending further investigations into the alleged irregularities. The suspension, the Ministry explained, is to allow for a thorough and transparent inquiry without interference.

The Minister stressed that adherence to approved admission guidelines remains a critical requirement for all health training institutions in the country. He warned that any head of institution found to have breached established procedures or engaged in unauthorized practices will face strict sanctions, in line with the Ministry’s regulatory framework.
He further reiterated government’s commitment to safeguarding integrity, transparency, and accountability within the health education system. According to him, maintaining high standards in the training of health professionals is essential to improving healthcare delivery nationwide.
The Ministry of Health assured the public that investigations into the matter will be conducted thoroughly and that appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings. The Ministry also reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen oversight mechanisms in health training institutions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The statement announcing the suspension was issued by Isaac Ofei Baah, Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Health, on Thursday, February 27, 2026.
